Michael Smith, AAIA
Director; Design: Principal
Texas A&M University
Michael joined DBA Architects in 2024, bringing with him more than 20 years of experience in multifamily architecture. Over the course of his career, he has completed work across 35 states and internationally, delivering 300,000+ residential units across all sectors of multifamily architecture, including single-family, townhome, affordable, market-rate, military, senior, student, mixed-use, single family for rent, hospitality, and nonprofit communities.
His designs have been recognized throughout the industry with honors from BALA, Aurora, Gold Nugget, McSam (DFW), Houston Builder’s Association, MHN, MFE Excellence, and Pillars of the Industry. As a particular point of pride, he had projects in a calendar year recently that simultaneously held the title of “Project of the Year” in all 3 major Texas markets – Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio. His commitment to design excellence is unwavering and is the central focus on any project he works on from a small site plan to a large scale mixed-use masterplan.
In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife Jessica and their 5 amazing children. He loves to travel but also has an extensive bucket list of places still to see. His current #1 destination is Tokyo, where he’d like to see Tadao Ando’s Catholic Church building, which might be his favorite piece of architecture anywhere in the world. As a certified sports nut, you can also find him rooting for any and all of Dallas’ sports teams (even though the Cowboys haven’t won a super bowl since he was in middle school!) as well as his beloved Aggies (Whoop!)
